“Since its inception in 1968 by a group of seven churches, the United College of Education has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of enrolment, staffing and programmes offered. With the attainment of independence in 1980 and the aggressive expansion of educational opportunities for the majority of the population, the college increased its enrolment in response to the national felt needs. Accordingly, the staff complement went up and new programmes were introduced for example, Special Needs Education. The college was ceded to the Government in 1982.
The college is the only institution in the country which offers Special Needs Education. Besides, it has a workshop which manufactures Zimbabwean traditional instruments such as marimba, mbira and hosho. The students who specialize in Music Main Subject are also taught how to repair and care for the musical instruments. The United College of Education has maintained its national outlook by enrolling students from anywhere in the country. There is also a broad mix of the lecturing staff who drive the various programmes. Finally, this is an open invitation to all to browse through the website and savour what the college offers for national development. Enjoy!”_Mr A.L.Luthuli
